Books And Other Fetishes

Books And Other Fetishes

Reading books is not merely a PASSION of mine, it's a NEED!!! It's what I do and being a bookworm is something I'm proud of because I feel like I'm a part of some special and extraordinary world that other people can't reach...unless they start reading books, of course! Though I love to read ANYTHING I can get my hands on, I love romance and supernatural themed novels and love discussing them with crazies like myself!!

The Vampire Diaries And Their Undisputable Awesomeness
Origins - Julie Plec, L.J. Smith, Kevin Williamson

Books ARE better than their television counterparts and this is a certified fact...with the only exception being the Vampire Diaries. Why? Well, I watched the show before I read the books and I thought, "The show is so so good...the books must be INCREDIBLE!" I started reading and I realized that the two were completely opposite except for a few basics. Even Elena's personality and looks were not the same. More importantly, the story started to get weird after the first four books but I managed to read the next three because I am a Delena fan and craved more moments. After that, the story got boring and stupid and dragged out...I couldn't go on any more. On the other hand, the show is fast-paced, thrilling, exciting and entertaining alongwith everything I expected from the books. Coming to the book I'm posting about, Stefan's Diaries follow the show's storyline thus these books are worthy of praise by default. I really enjoyed reading this and I could picture the amazing cast in my head for the characters! I am so excited for the second book which I'll start as soon as I'm done with this review! :-)

Renewed Interest In The Private Series
Invitation Only - Kate Brian

It looks like I spoke (or more accurately WROTE) too soon regarding the Private series. Yes, I still detest Reed Brennan and her pathetic and desperate and selfish nature BUT this book changed things a bit. I actually enjoyed reading it a little for TWO reasons. Firstly, the story is getting more mysterious and suspenseful with the question being,"What game are the Billings girls playing now??" and of course, Thomas turning up dead has kicked it all up a notch (I really liked him at first but like Reed, he also turned out to be a disappointment ). Secondly, I am very much interested in the romance brewing between Reed and Josh (who is the opposite of Thomas except that he's hot too :-P). So, in other words, I am curious to know what happens next and it looks like I'll end up reading the whole series after all!

Reeling From A Much-Needed Dose Of Adrian
Silver Shadows - Richelle Mead

I have no words to describe how I am feeling and anything would be an understatement but I have to let it all out right now! First of all, I am so so so glad that Adrian and Sydney are back together after the re-education trauma (I loved how they broke her out of that place) and the never-ending run from the damned Alchemists. I dreaded that something would go wrong or Sydney would become a zombie after all but thankfully, the impossible happened (That time when Adrian slacked off in using spirit dreams to find Sydney, I was like, "WHAT the heck are you doing, Adrian???"). The scene where they finally meet each other after so many months apart almost made me cry...it was that heart melting! Now, I can get to the part which is driving me crazy...Adrian and Sydney get MARRIED??!! Yes, it was due to extenuating circumstances but it was SO romantic and sweet and amazing!! It reminded me of when Daemon and Katy get married in the Luxen series and both cases had me squealing in joy. Still, everything's in chaos and Jill is missing...February is TOO far away and I can't wait for the next (and final) book!

My Feelings Exactly
My Feelings Exactly

So true!! I hate lending my books because I've learnt my lesson the hard way(getting my books back with their pages frayed and bent) and sometimes, it's not just that. I feel POSSESSIVE about them and once the whole world knows about a book, it gets covered by a layer of lameness...silly, I know but I still feel that way. :-P

The 14 Types Of Harry Potter Fans

So, people, Harry Potter is one name that EVERYONE is familiar with (one way or the other) and for myself, especially, this series marked the discovery of my love for books and the beginning of my journey into the world of book reading from which I wouldn't be coming out any time soon. I am definitely a Potterhead and proud to be one which is why I couldn't resist posting about another list I found. By the way, points 1, 2, 6, 8, 10 and 11 perfectly describe my feelings!

One Of The Cutest Love Stories Ever!
I've Got Your Number - Sophie Kinsella

I love love love books with romance which is, incidently, the reason I am a fan of Judith Mcnaught (despite the predictable plot and identical character descriptions in every book). This book, however, tells a love story that is unique and beautiful and heart-warming but at the same time, is full of moments that put a goofy smile on your face or a huge lump in your throat. Poppy and Sam are so opposite in nature (I actually found Poppy a bit annoying some times but Sam...no words for him except dreamy) but the way they meet and the progress of their relationship (which is mostly through their cell phones!) is incredibly awesome AND hilarious. The ending was so perfect even though I wish the book had more moments AFTER they finally get together. I absolutely loved it and writing this review makes me want to read it yet again!

"...Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers" - Louise Rennison

The Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series was recommended to me by a friend who remarked that even though it's for younger readers, it's still really funny. Well, it's not just funny. It's HILARIOUS! So many parts in this book alone had me laughing out loud which earned me strange looks and comments from the woefully ignorant. Yes, Georgia is selfish and self-centered and annoying but she is SO entertaining! Her language is both mind-boggling AND amusing including words like nungas, chuddies, Stalag 14 and boy entrancers (eyelashes). As for her love interests, I would love for her to end up with Dave the Laugh and there has been some progress in this department so I'll see what happens. All in all, I had fun reading this book and would advise anyone looking for some silly humour and a good laugh to give this series a try!

P.S I would substitute 'tea' for coffee which is one thing that always finishes way too quickly...just like a great book or a yummy dessert!

Can't Get Enough Of The Mortal Instruments...and Jace!
City of Fallen Angels - Cassandra Clare

This is probably the fifth time I've completed this book and even though it's the second most depressing book in the Mortal Instruments series(after City Of Lost Souls), I still read it again for two reasons. One is that I just bought it for myself and reading it while holding it is so much more better than reading it on your phone. Second is that I love all the books in this series and I wanted to relive all the Jace and Clary moments! Of course, in the last three books, Jace and Clary are TOGETHER and can finally acknowledge their relationship and it's a wonderful relief but I have to say...the whole forbidden love thing when they believe they are siblings?? I enjoyed that even more!! Coming back to this book, I really love the bits where the past including Will (sigh) and London and De Quincy is mentioned. Similarly, the scenes involving Brother Zacharia/Jem are ones I love too because they are the link to another world and the Infernal Devices story which I ADORE. In short, I had a great time revisiting this book! The ending, as always, has left me feeling mopey though so I keep reminding myself that Jace would get fixed and will be himself eventually!!

A Typical Situation for Book Nerds

This has happened with me SO many times and not only because everytime I go out, books are the ONLY thing I am interested in spending money on but also due to a weird obsession of mine (or at least, that is what everyone else calls it). See, just READING a book isn't enough for me. If it's a good one, I'll make it a point to BUY it for myself if I see it...even if I've read it a million times already (which means it's worth it anyway)! Why??? Because I LOVE the feeling of holding it in my hands and being able to turn the pages. It's an incredibly joyful moment for me to have that book for myself...the story feels more REAL somehow. Thus, I enter a book store intending to buy the latest book in some series but I obviously don't have enough money for the ones I've already read but still want...which, by the by, are WAY too many! :-P

A Not So Great Start To The Reading Challenge
Private - Kate Brian

I have only one word for it and that's DISAPPOINTING. This book let me down and the worst part is that I wanted to read it for so long and after failing to download it, I happened to find it in a book store and I was ECSTATIC because I expected something great from the author who gave us Megan Mead and the Mcgowan boys. This was anything BUT great. The main problem was the utterly despicable excuse for a heroine and she ruined what was otherwise an intriguing plot. I found her desperate and selfish and I lost respect for her because she was willing to do ANYTHING to get in with the Billings crowd. The last thing I expect in heroines is perfection but there has to be some redeeming quality or strength of character but here...nothing. I don't even feel like reading further because I couldn't stand another dose of Reed Brennan. I feel that the Privilege series would be better even though I've only read one of the books because Arianna Osgood's scheming and plotting keeps you hooked while Reed Brennan is just PATHETIC.     :-(

To all the awesome people who really GET it
To all the awesome people who really GET it

Sadly, the chances of finding them are very rare. I am lucky to know TWO such people and I've had a great time discussing books and drooling and squeeling over hot fictional guys with them!! It's like you feel an instant connection with another book lover and you never run out of stuff to talk about with them because there's always some new book out there!

I love books. I love that moment when you open one and you can sink into it you can escape from the world, into a story that's way more interesting than yours will ever be.
